Some time in the late 1980s, I wrote a story about a killer Bundt cake. I think that this may have been one of those times where I had an unbearably boring class assignment (perhaps “use the word phagocytosis in a sentence”) and took it way too far.
I’ve shocked myself by writing some poetry today. Other than “The Face Known to Me,” I haven’t written anything substantial in decades.
What’s that feeling when you are working hard on self-care, and then something happens to someone you love and your immediate thought is, “that happened because I was being selfish”? Oh, I know: stupidity and magical thinking.

I have felt pretty manic these past couple of weeks, like my entire body is on overdrive. I suspect that having our wills and estate plan done affected me more than I thought it would.
Scenes from today’s Labor Day “Workers over Billionaires, People over Profit” protest in downtown Dallas. Apparently we are supposed to call these events “music festivals” on social media to confuse the suppression algorithm.
Re-reading letters from the early 90s reminded me that Young Katy wasn’t always a total idiot. Also… what does one do with old love letters? Hmm...
Re-reading handwritten letters from friends makes me really nostalgic for the fine (and fun) art of letter writing. I think I might try to resurrect this art form for myself.
A quote that a friend posted to social media last week really made me do some thinking about how people can be manipulated into beliefs that go against all common sense.
I realize that it has been a while since I shared any recipes! I know that all two of you reading my blog have sorely missed this! I apologize for my oversight and will engage in self-flagellation posthaste.
