Fruitlessly shoveling sleet
We spent a good 45 minutes trying to clear the packed sleet out of our driveway with makeshift equipment. At least I got some exercise.

Rebecca Solnit is a wonderful source of thoughtful commentary in these dark times. I found her latest piece particularly insightful, on the topic of MAGA being simply unable to comprehend empathy, unable to give a shit about anything beyond themselves and their own narrow self-interests.

I’m pretty proud of myself for running for nearly an hour today in the 20 degree weather, though my pace was nearly a minute slower than normal.

This was last night’s dinner during the “thundersleet” outside: short ribs, green beans, red wine mushrooms, and financiers with raspberries and caramel sauce.

Today's weather matches my mood. The world is completely overwhelming me today, just a firehose of awfulness.

At the end of my 3 weeks in Sequim, I did something that feels selfish yet necessary: I took 2 full days completely for myself in Seattle.

When I go home, I will miss sitting on the couch with my mom in the mornings and before bed, sometimes just quietly being with each other, sometimes cracking jokes or talking about life.

I love this piece by @the.missing.poet. I wish I had written it.

Part of me thinks that it’s unconscionably self-indulgent to write poetry when the world is on fire… but a bigger part of me knows that keeping such things alive makes all the difference.
