About Me

I am Katy. I’m just a person who writes a blog (that very few people read, I assume, and that is okay). I started writing around 2006, but took a break when social media devoured the world and my long-form writing skills (also I had a kid, and that totally ate my brain). Now, as of 2025, I am writing regularly again and it gives me so much joy.

Writing

  • Other things I have written include a lot of stuff for work, which is not exciting enough to document here, and a cookbook that I am very proud of.
  • I like ending sentences with prepositions, as you can see from the previous one.
  • I use the Oxford comma, and you can pry it from my cold, dead, lifeless hands.
  • I’m a poet, or at least I used to be. I think I was halfway decent at it when my life was full of angst.

Art

I am also an artist! I work in oils, watercolors, colored pencils and ink, and digital media. You can take a look at my work on my other website, katyscott.com. All of my art is for sale!

Colorful Language

I am fluent in three languages: English, sarcasm, and cursing.

I curse, a lot, but I think I do it artfully and well. If this doesn’t sit well with you, you may be offended by a lot of my posts. See the next section for a big part of the reason why.

Politics/Fascism/Democracy

I am writing this “About Me” page in 2025, and the United States has gone completely off the rails into Fucking Batshit Crazytown. A fascist autocratic convicted rapist and felon somehow got elected president FOR THE SECOND TIME and he and his buddies are rapidly and systematically dismantling the pillars of democracy, laughing all the way, and the rest of the people in charge are basically just letting him.

I want a public record of my strong, clear, unambiguous feelings that the fascist sociopathic traitor Donald Trump and his entire administration are destroying America and its good citizens.

I am horrified, appalled, and will go on all public records saying that many if not most of their actions appear to be various degrees of illegal, and are unequivocally immoral, cruel, hypocritical, unethical. Quite frankly, they should probably all be in prison. Publicly stating my opinions that are contrary to opinions they approve of might put me on a list somewhere, but if good people don’t speak up for what is right, then we are all lost.

Food

But, on a brighter note, there are still a lot of really good things in the world, and food is one of my favorite. I think about food ALL the time.

But Katy, you ask. What ARE your favorite foods? I’m dying to know! Well, I’m so glad you asked! They’re way too numerous to list, but here are a few!

  • coffee
  • cheese
  • caramel, especially the salted kind
  • shortbread
  • berries
  • tomatoes
  • avocados
  • salmon
  • beans
  • tacos
  • arugula, radicchio, frisée… any bitter greens
  • vinegar
  • wine
  • cake and also cookies (which are basically cake jerky)
  • vanilla ice cream
