A super easy way to keep up with your old pal Katy is to subscribe to my newsletter!
Creative writing is rough. It’s hard to get anyone interested enough to read what you write. And poetry especially so because so many people are afraid they won’t get it and they decide they are just “not a poetry person.”
I talk about the muse a lot in my work. Sometimes I have to be my own muse. Sources of creative inspiration are hard to come by so if you find one — hold on to it.
Muse
Being a poet is a lonely choice.
Your work lies unread
Most people uninterested or afraid of getting it wrong
That compulsion you feel
To record the exquisite: heartbreak, grief, beauty, synchrony
Had better be for yourself
Because you are your only audience
The lucky poet, in her lifetime, might find another
Who gets it, who points out the shit
Who makes her feel like her words actually mean something
So if you should be lucky enough to find that person:
A muse is a rare gift.
Hang on to her at all costs.
