Anger is an energy

From Rebecca Solnit’s newsletter, Meditations in an Emergency

I’m so, so, so angry about everything the 🍊🤡🧩💩 regime is doing. It’s utterly exhausting and overwhelming though I try not to let it overwhelm me for long. I get back up, I keep going, I have to, what else am I going to do?

And anger is destructive, right? It eats away at you, you lash out, you damage relationships. I have never been good at recognizing that I even HAVE anger, let alone expressing it, because for whatever reason I absorbed the message that good girls do not get angry. It’s impolite. You’ll be seen as a bitch.

HOWEVER. Things are, shall we say, different now. And I learned today that I can view my anger as protective energy, protecting what I love and believe in. I kind of love that framework, and it helps.

If you don’t already read Rebecca Solnit’s newsletter “Meditations in an Emergency,” you should. From today’s letter:

“We are often told anger is our superpower or secret weapon, but I see (and experience) what gets called anger as protective energy, and you don’t feel that way about things you don’t love and value. So the starting point and heart of it all is love.”
