a contract!

Holy Frijoles!! I am going to be a published author!! We had a publisher call us yesterday and say that he wants to go ahead and publish our cookbook! We’re getting a small advance and then a percentage of sales to boot. I’m just amazed that as a first-time author we are getting a deal like this. It’s still probably going to be small time (no New York Times bestseller list, yet), but still, it’s going to be printed and promoted. We’re awaiting the contract, which should arrive today and which Rachel has graciously agreed to look over for us. My two concerns are: number one, rights — I would like for us to retain the rights to the material; and number two, the publisher wants to take it in a “romantic” direction, since it’s called Quickies for Couples. I have no ideas about how we might do that. So I’m thinking that my free time for the rest of the year is going to be taken up by writing and editing. Which is not such a bad way to spend my time, really!
