So here we are at war. Yep. Pretty shitty. I’m sure that everyone agrees that it is shitty to be at war, whether you support the reasons behind it or not. Now, all that being said, I would like to address a common misconception that war supporters seem to have about those of us who do not support the war, and this is something that causes me a lot of frustration and aggravation:
Not supporting the war does NOT mean that we do not support the soldiers who are over there fighting this war. I do not agree that we should have gone to war. I do not agree with the way we went about it. I don’t believe or agree with the reasons that we’re being told that we are at war. But I feel deeply sad for those people who are out fighting in it. I hope that they will remain safe and be able to return home soon to their families and loved ones.
I understand that there are some people who do not agree with the concept of anti-war protests (and who blame even those of us who are more privately anti-war), and that is fine, as it is their right to think whatever they wish to think. But to assume that being anti-war somehow means being pro-Saddam Hussein or that we do not suupport the soldiers, the real live people who are fighting in the war, our next door neighbors and sons and friends and husbands and wives and daughters and parents, is ludicrous and hurtful. The world is not black and white like that. Neither is war.
In another amazingly ridiculous turn of events, France actually had to issue a statement that they wish for the U.S. to win the war, and not Saddam Hussein. As if any sane person would ever call that into question.
