A super easy way to keep up with your old pal Katy is to subscribe to my newsletter!
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. ” — Theodore Roosevelt, 1918
Here’s a fun site: Weight Watcher’s Recipe Cards, Circa 1974 . Take the tour. Do it all.
Here is what the woman who runs the site says about the recipe cards: “I found them while helping my parents clean out their basement a few years ago… Plenty of the dishes seemed normal enough, but as I flipped through them, some of the recipes began to alarm me…These cards mystify me. None of them have calorie or nutrition information of any kind, and in some instances it’s hard to tell what’s dietetic about the recipes at all, except that they’re unspeakably grim… There’s a certain serve-it-at-your-next-key-party freakiness to a lot of these dishes. Dehydrated onion flakes are in almost everything here….and Weight Watchers had a prop department that was clearly out of control. Oh, you’ll see.”
Her disclaimer: “This site is not affiliated with Weight Watchers International, Inc., whose present-day recipes are very nice and do not look like ass at all.”
I love this site! She writes captions the same way James Lileks writes captions, and I so envy that skill. Plus, she’s a Mac user!
