je ne peux pas parler français, même inconsciemment

last night i dreamed that i had witnessed an accident between two big flatbed trucks, and i was talking to a police officer about what i’d seen. in the dream i was french, but had been living in america for a very long time. for some reason i needed to talk to the officer in french, but every time i tried to say something i found that i couldn’t even think in french let alone speak it. all i could get out were a few random french words, and english words spoken with a heavy french accent. no matter how hard i tried, i could not talk in french. i kept saying “why can’t i do this?!” and trying again and again.

when i woke up, i realized that the reason i couldn’t speak french in my dream is because i can’t do it in real life!
