Why would you leave a mess like this?
At lunch today at the student center where I work, I had a hard time finding a table to eat at because all the empty ones either had trash left on them or were dirty. This photo represents my best option. You are looking at spilled greasy salad dressing (and there was more on the floor), bits of lettuce, crumbs, salt and pepper, a older sticky stain that had dried to tacky and gotten dirty from other stuff.

Quite frankly I cannot understand how full grown adults can just walk away from a table and leave their trash or a sticky mess like this. I mean, COME ON. Don’t be shitty to the people that work here and the other customers. Get a damned NAPKIN and wipe it up. It’s not hard and it’s just basic manners.
My mind, of course, jumps to an entitlement attitude based on what I perceive the customer base here to be like. Maybe that’s not completely fair, but surely some of these young adults have always had people to clean up after them their whole lives. Perhaps they never learned 1) how to do it, and more importantly 2) that they need to. In which case I feel quite sorry for them.
This restaurant area in the past has had table signs on each table that said, essentially, “Your mother does not work here. Please clean up after yourself.” Those always annoyed me because even if your mother did work here, you should STILL clean up after yourself. It’s not her damned job.
At first I qualified this as an “old woman yelling at cloud” moment (an older person — me — getting annoyed at the new way things are done these days), especially based on the fact that I realized I had a sour expression on my face and was looking around for the possible culprit. Upon reflection, though, I don’t feel like this qualifies as that. As I said, it’s just basic manners!

It’s hard to believe we’ve had Mr. Kitty for this long, but we adopted him nine years ago today! What an adorable Gray Menace.

Lots of rain
Unrelated to anything else, we had a ton of rain yesterday evening and throughout the overnight. So much so that the flowerbeds at my workplace look like swimming pools. Hope these poor plants make it.
