regaining body parts

my fingernail on the 4th finger of my right hand is finally starting to look better. the nail, which doc helped me cut short in the last photo i took of it, finally came completely off a week or so after that. actually, i had to help it, which was really gross, but at least it stopped catching on things. now, the new nail has come in almost halfway, and i guess the part above that is the remainder of the old nail that was underneath the skin. yeah, i know, yuck.

i’ve noticed that all my nails are slightly ridged with vertical lines that extend all the way from the base of the nail to the tip. i don’t know if this has something to do with getting older, or nutrition, or just a side effect of having thin brittle nails anyway. but i noticed that the new one is coming in perfectly smooth. it will be strange if it doesn’t develop ridges to match the other ones.

  1. i have noticed that my nails have similar ridges, its especially easy to see on the larger thumb nails. i never really thought about it, its just the way they are. i don’t know the physiology of nails, but maybe there are a discrete number of “nail glands” that cause ridges. wow, come to think of it i am completely ignorant on how nails grow.
