A super easy way to keep up with your old pal Katy is to subscribe to my newsletter!
Today I stayed home from work because I wasn’t feeling well. I don’t have the flu or anything (thankfully) but I think that the work-related stress from the past couple of months is catching up with me in the form of mild migraines and a lowered immune system. I had a nasty headache yesterday afternoon at work and it came back in the evening after the Excedrin wore off, so I decided to just go ahead and stay home today to try and recover some strength, both physical and mental.
I definitely feel better this evening. I took a short walk this morning in the cool(ish) weather to try and clear my head a little, and then I binge-watched “Walking Dead” for most of the afternoon. I’m almost done with season 2. I had kind of a hard time getting into it due to the excessive gore (gore and horror are reeeeeeeeally not my things) but the plot is captivating and the characters are well-written, so I am just turning my head away from the screen a lot and pretending those splat sounds are just someone dropping a canteloupe every now and again.
It’s very strange being in the house when Jamieson is at school. It is so…. quiet. And empty-feeling. Doc says that he is used to it by now, mostly.
This evening after I put Jamieson to bed, I came downstairs to eat dinner. Then, Doc and I sat at the kitchen table and talked for a while, and I decided I needed to go upstairs to the studio so I could get some work done before bed. And when I got to the stairs, what did I find but a little pajama-clad boy, sound asleep on the landing and clutching his stuffed frog!
Of course, my first thought was, “Did Doc and I talk about, you know, SEX or did we curse excessively (or at all) during the course of our conversation?!” I’m pretty sure our conversation was safe for 5 year old ears tonight, but I am definitely going to be more careful about what I say out loud when I’m not 100% sure that Jamie is asleep.

And now, just because the format of this journal requires that all posts have an accompanying photo, I present to you (above) our family’s Halloween jack-o-lanterns for this year! Doc’s little sugar pumpkin is named Wicked Jack. My creation is a somewhat reasonable representation of Totoro, one of my favorite Miyazaki characters. And Jamieson drew his own design, by himself, and mostly carved it on his own, too.
