Yesterday, I ran a poem idea about handwriting past Kathryn, and she intrigued me with the idea that this weird thing I'm experiencing may be tied to my synesthesia.
I think I need to start saying “yes” to things that I might normally say no to. It might help me get unstuck.
Sometimes it takes you your whole life to figure out that what you thought were flaws are actually some of the best things about you.

This poem is about a lot of things. A literal event, with metaphorical interpretations. I like to write in layers: rich, thin, glazed layers on top of each other, with different levels of meaning that can be interpreted many ways. But mostly, this one is about trying to get unstuck.
This poem is about trying to predict the future, and how you probably just have to give up some control.
I like this photo that Doc took of me at the No Kings rally last weekend. I was soaked all the way through and freezing, but nothing was going to stop me from making my voice heard.
A little throwback to 20 year old Katy. I’ve been trying to look back at her with love and compassion but man, sometimes it is hard.

This poem is about how totally separate emotions can feel identical inside your body, and how hard that can be to deal with.
The No Kings protest today in Dallas had an outstanding turnout. Despite a twisted ankle and a thunderstorm, I’m extremely glad I went. And then Kathryn sang at me for an hour!
