A super easy way to keep up with your old pal Katy is to subscribe to my newsletter!
It is so great to have old friends that I might not get to see for a few years at a time, but when we do get together, we pick back up like it was just yesterday. Debbie is one of those people! And we got to see her and Sirish and their kids this weekend.
We had a very loose schedule headed in to Austin, which was good because the weather changed some of our plans (there was terrible flash-flooding on the Guadalupe River south of Austin; a lot of people were killed including numerous children at a camp, many of whom are still missing).
We met Debbie and her family for some old school arcade games and then a delicious taco dinner and we kept the little kids up long past their bedtime (sorry, Dev!). I cannot stress enough how good it was to catch up with her.
The next day we spent some time wandering around on Sixth Street, visited the Museum of the Weird, ate some ice cream, and then later we went out to The Oasis for dinner, on Lake Travis. The weather was overcast and rainy all day, so we weren’t expecting much of a view, but we got lucky and were rewarded with an absolutely spectacular sunset. The last time I was at The Oasis was… 1994? My 21st birthday weekend, maybe? Anyway, it was a long time ago and the place has since burned down and been rebuilt. It’s massive now.
And on our way out of town on the final day, we were planning to go to Barton Springs Pool but it was closed due to the high water levels on the river. So instead we had a leisurely breakfast, went to Inner Space Caverns, and then headed for home.
