We have a new driver!! Despite appearing like he didn’t want his photo taken, he gave me permission to post it.
It was a pain in the ass to get this appointment at the DMV. I had no idea that they schedule appointments two to three months out, which I found out when Jamie completed his classroom study and passed the written test in early June. I foolishly thought we could finish up driver’s ed this summer and he’d have his license by the start of his junior year. Not so!
I got lucky when I just happened to check the DMV website again last week and some appointments opened up for the coming week. We had to drive all the way out to Carrollton but whatevs.
I was really proud of Jamie at this DMV appointment. The DMV employee mainly talked directly to him, asking questions of me as the parent only when needed. And he handled his own business well!
So now he has to do his 14 hours in the car with the driving school instructor, which I am trying to schedule for August. After that, he has to have a certain number of practice hours in the car with a parent, and he’ll be eligible to take the driving test and get his license in January.
