A super easy way to keep up with your old pal Katy is to subscribe to my newsletter!
There’s nothing I like more than paying an annual $200 punishment fine (disguised as a registration fee) for the crime of owning an electric vehicle in the state of Texas.
It is true that because we don’t buy gasoline for the EV, we don’t pay the gas taxes that help maintain the roads we use. (Although frankly, even if we did and filled up as much as once a week, that tax would come to less than $100 annually, not the $200 they are charging us.)
HOWEVER…. considering that our EV weighs a third to a half of what many giant trucks and SUVs weigh, I kinda doubt our tiny Fiat is really the problem when it comes to tearing up the roads. How about a sliding scale registration fee based on vehicle weight? Wouldn’t that be more fair?
