We spent a long weekend in New Orleans as our big family holiday gift! The weather was warm and steamy (gross!) but we managed to have a great time. Happily, the teenager’s attitude stayed largely on the neutral to slightly positive side, which is about all we can ask for these days.
The food was quite insanely great and the portions were, shall we say, generous. With the muffuletta, Doc and I split a half sandwich for lunch and it was more than enough.
The beignets at both Cafe du Monde and Cafe Beignet were totally delicious and now I will be wanting beignets every morning.
The night we arrived, we ate at Mother’s Restaurant which looks like a hole in the wall and made amazing red beans and rice, ham, and green beans. That plate could easily have fed 2-1/2 people.
Other food we had included Greek chicken bowls, fried chicken, shrimp salad, blackened chicken sandwiches. It’s not easy to be a vegetarian in this city.
