Winner: SugarPlum Tree!

Last month, an artist co-worker persuaded me to enter a juried art show (sponsored by the Rockwall Art League… Rockwall is a small/medium sized town near Dallas). An art show in Rockwall seemed pretty random to me, but she knows one of the organizers and donated arranged flowers for the opening event.

Much to my surprise, one of the two paintings I entered was selected to be shown in the exhibit! Of course, it was the one that I wasn’t considering selling… but still! Very excited.

Even more to my surprise, the show took place at a car dealership. Is that weird? That’s weird, right?

And to my penultimate surprise, my painting won honorable mention!

Unfortunately, Doc and Jamie could not come to the reception/awards ceremony, as they were busy with Jamie’s freshman homecoming activities that same evening, but Kathryn and Chris came out to support me. It was such a nice surprise on top of the surprise of winning.

Oddly, a full 25% of the winning artworks (and many more that did not win) prominently featured birds. Including mine, we realized!!
