this is an actual sentence — the first one, as a matter of fact — from an 1950s cookbook entitled “the ground meat cookbook”:

Quiz an American on his food preferences and you will uncover a devotee of hamburger, a lover of succulent ground meat oozing in a bun.

i don’t know about you, but i’m rather certain that i wouldn’t eat anything described as “oozing,” bun or no. sewers ooze. zits ooze. viscous petrochemicals ooze. my food — it shouldn’t ooze, for the love of all that is holy.
