We have been iced in for the past two days. The city pretty much shut down. No school, no work. Definitely no driving. We took walks today and yesterday to the video store and to get lunch. I did some work from home (yuk!).

People drive really stupidly around here when there’s ice. We saw so many people driving way too fast and way too close to the cars in front of them for these conditions. We saw a DART bus completely stuck on the ice; we saw several cars totally stuck. Lots of sliding, but strangely we didn’t witness any accidents, like we did last time we had an ice storm (New Year’s Eve several years ago, we saw an SUV going too fast spin out of control, do a 180, and crash backwards into a tree along Northwest Highway).

Tuesday we heard sirens almost constantly, and saw fire trucks and ambulances racing past our street several times an hour. This morning a big pickup truck was stuck spinning its wheels on our street, nearly to the busy intersection. This brilliant driver decided to gun it, and just spun forever — until he finally got traction and practically shot out onto Kingsley. Quite predictable, although apparently not to this idiot driver. Luckily there weren’t any cars coming when he got traction.

So being iced in has been kind of fun. We’ve gotten to lay around the house all day in our PJs and watch movies.

I do think I’m going to do some yoga tonight before bed, to make up for the days I missed.
