go vote!

I did not win any Katie awards. That is sort of disappointing, but I was at least happy to be a finalist. I was pretty sure I wouldn’t win for the research magazine online, but I was holding out hope for the media relations website award. I lost to Ben Dover, but I guess he’s a good one to lose to. His website is butt-ugly, but jampacked with information. I have it bookmarked. Walter Cronkite was the guest of honor, and it was really awesome to get to hear him speak.

We saw two movies this weekend: “Bowling for Columbine,” a simply amazing movie (as are all Michael Moore’s movies and productions). Go see it. You will be furious, you will laugh your ass off, you will want to get out and vote and write nasty letters to people in power, and you will not want to have kids. You will feel even more utter disgust and pity for Charlton Heston than you already do. It made ME want to move to Canada, which deserves that self-assigned label of “greatest country in the world” more than the USA.

The other movie we saw was “Punch Drunk Love,” which was possibly one of the weirdest movies I’ve ever seen. Adam Sandler does a great job of portraying a mentally ill, crazy, completely socially inept person who’s desperately trying to cover up his deficiences to the world. I was highly uncomfortable the entire two hours, just feeling embarrassed for the poor guy. But that is by no means a bad thing for a movie to do to you.

Oh, we also recently saw “The Ring.” Wow — I really liked it, a lot more than I thought I would. It sure was scary. Not a “I’m going to have nightmares for a week” or “look at all that blood and gore” or “you’re home alone, don’t answer the phone, stupid!” kind of scary… just real real creepy. And the great thing was, they don’t really explain everything to you… you kind of have to figure stuff out and draw your own conclusions. I won’t spoil it for you, but it’s definitely a must see not only for the creepy factor, but also because it is just stunningly beautiful. The cinematography is amazing.

Go vote on Tuesday!! As Michael Moore says, “I think we can give Bush the Mother of all Shellackings on Tuesday.” To find out where your voting location is in Dallas County, look on your voter registration card for your Precinct Number, then check here: DalCoElections.Org

FYI, the Green Party candidates for Dallas County are:

U.S. Senate: Roy Williams

U.S. House: Thomas J. Kemper (5th District), Carla Hubbell (32nd District)

Texas Governor: Rahul Mahajan

Lieutenant Governor: Nathalie Paravicini

Texas Attorney General: David Keith Cobb

Texas Comptroller: Ruben L. Reyes

Texas Land Commissioner: Michale B. McInerney

Texas Agriculture Commissioner: Jane Woodward Elioseff

Texas Railroad Commissioner: Charles L. Mauch

Also, Rachel has asked that we all consider voting for Democrat Margaret Mirabal for Texas Supreme Court Justice place 4. Apparently the Republican opponent is a complete idiot. These are strong words coming from Rachel, who (I think) normally does not vote for Democrats.
